CHINESE school education received a boost when Guinness Anchor Bhd (Gab) recently donated a total of RM2mil following a six-week fund-raising campaign. I was quite surprised when i first knew this matter. Never thought that beer industry will give such a huge support to Chinese schools.
The campaign was named Dragon Mission, which ended in February benefited the Chinese Primary School Development Fund and the Brilliant Dragon Education Fund.
As for the first part of the campaign, the company donated 30 sen for every bottle of Tiger, Guinness, Heineken and Anchor sold at 3,302 participating coffee shops and food courts. The RM1.4 million raised from this effort will be distributed to 632 Chinese primary schools.
As for the second, the company donated RM3 for every purchase of 27 can-pack of Tiger or Guinness, and 24 can-pack of Heineken or Anchor sold at key supermarkets nationwide.
This nationwide campaign had successfully raised RM615,000 and will be awarded as scholarships to 615 deserving students who wish to continue their secondary education in one of the 60 Independent Chinese secondary schools in Malaysia.
